Second Avenue Deli

$89.99

The Second Ave Deli began in 1954, when Abe Lebewohl took over a tiny 10-seat luncheonette on East 10th Street at Second Avenue, in the heart of what was then the Yiddish Theater District. Abe had arrived in America speaking no English, started out as a soda jerk at a Coney Island deli, and worked every job in the place, from cook to counterman to busboy, as he built it into one of New York's most famous delis. After the original closed in 2006, his nephews Jeremy and Josh, who grew up in the restaurant, reopened it on East 33rd Street in 2007 and later added a second location on the Upper East Side. The James Beard Foundation named it an America's Classic in 1998, and its pastrami, matzo ball soup, and celebrated chopped liver keep the old Lower East Side deli tradition alive.
