Gallaghers Steakhouse
Former Ziegfeld girl Helen Gallagher and gambler Jack Solomon opened Gallaghers as a Prohibition-era speakeasy in the Theater District in November 1927, before it converted into a full steakhouse after Prohibition ended. Its dry-aging room, visible through a street-level window, has displayed porterhouses to passersby for decades, and the walls are covered in photos of the Broadway stars, athletes, and gamblers who made it a fixture. Dean Poll bought the restaurant in 2013 and restored the porterhouse to the menu after a controversial 2008 removal, keeping nearly a century of Theater District history intact.
