Emilio's Ballato

Emilio's Ballato has run out of a small, unmarked storefront on East Houston Street in Nolita since 1956, still occupying the same original front room the restaurant opened in seven decades ago. Owner Emilio Vitolo Sr. is a fixture at the edge of the bar keeping watch over the room, with his sons now helping run the dining room alongside him. Despite, or maybe because of, its lack of a sign or website, it's become a celebrity magnet over the decades, mostly by word of mouth rather than any marketing at all.
