Wo Hop has served Cantonese-American food from a Mott Street basement in Chinatown since 1938, making it the second-oldest restaurant in the neighborhood and one of the last true old-guard Chinatown institutions. Run by the Huang family for three generations, it earned a James Beard America's Classic award in 2022 for its decades of consistency. In 2025, third-generation owner David Leung expanded the restaurant to a new street-level space above the original basement dining room, its first major move in nearly 90 years. It remains one of Chinatown's most enduring, unpretentious institutions, open late into the night for a bowl of wonton soup or lo mein.
