Uva opened on Second Avenue on the Upper East Side in 2005 as a wine bar at a time when the format was still a novelty in the neighborhood, pairing an extensive wine list with small plates in a room styled after a remote Tuscan farmhouse. As demand grew, the kitchen expanded into larger entrees and the restaurant carved out a secret back garden and wine room for late-night regulars. It's since spun off Uva Next Door and the speakeasy-style Keys & Heels under the same ownership, building a small footprint of connected spaces on the same stretch of Second Avenue.
