Semma
$69.99
Semma opened on Greenwich Avenue in the West Village in October 2021 from restaurateurs Roni Mazumdar and Chintan Pandya, with chef Vijay Kumar cooking the food of his native Tamil Nadu rather than the more familiar North Indian dishes most New York diners know. The rustic, regional South Indian menu earned a Michelin star within a year of opening and has held it since, and Kumar won the James Beard Award for Best Chef: New York State in 2025. The New York Times ranked it the single best restaurant in New York City in 2025, a remarkable run for a restaurant serving a cuisine rarely given this kind of platform.
