Le Veau d’Or opened in 1937 at 129 East 60th Street, just off Lexington Avenue, and is one of the oldest French restaurants still running in New York. Over the decades it fed Orson Welles, who had a favorite window banquette, along with Grace Kelly, Jacqueline Onassis and James Beard. In 2019 Lee Hanson and Riad Nasr, the team behind Frenchette, bought it from Catherine Treboux, whose father Robert had been its third owner. They reopened it in July 2024, keeping the old room intact and updating the bistro classics like frog legs, pâté en croûte and chicken fricassée with morels. A year later it was ranked #10 on the first World’s 50 Best Restaurants list for North America.
