Frank opened in the East Village in June 1998, the first restaurant from Frank Prisinzano, who financed it with a loan from his parents and paid them back in full, in cash, by that Christmas. The menu draws on Prisinzano's Sicilian, Puglian, and Neapolitan roots, built from training at the Culinary Institute of America and years spent cooking and eating across Italy. Its unfussy, candlelit dining room and butcher-paper tablecloths set the template Prisinzano would repeat at sister restaurants like Lil' Frankie's nearby. More than 25 years later, it's still one of the East Village's defining red-sauce spots.
