Delmonico's

$89.99

Swiss immigrant brothers John and Peter Delmonico opened what's considered New York's first fine-dining restaurant in 1837 near Beaver, William, and South William Streets, introducing the city to concepts like the printed menu, private dining rooms, and a wine cellar of a thousand bottles. The kitchen later gave the world Eggs Benedict, Baked Alaska, and the Delmonico steak. The original family operation closed in 1923 as Prohibition upended fine dining, and the name has been revived multiple times since under different owners, most recently by the Tucci family, whose Max Tucci, a third-generation partner, reopened the current Beaver Street location in September 2023 after a three-year pandemic closure. It's survived Prohibition, two World Wars, September 11th, and Hurricane Sandy in one form or another, and today trades heavily on being, as Tucci puts it, older than the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge, and Grand Central combined.
