Corner Bistro

Corner Bistro has served burgers from the corner of West 4th and Jane Streets in the West Village since 1961, inside a creaky three-story building that had previously done time as a gay bar and, before that, a butcher shop with a speakeasy in back. It's never carried the bohemian, artist-hangout reputation of nearby spots like the White Horse Tavern, staying instead a plain, cash-only neighborhood bar built around one thing: a cheap, well-made cheeseburger. Long lines and a dim, wood-paneled room have become part of the appeal rather than a deterrent. In 2025, it expanded for the first time with an East Village outpost, more than six decades after opening its original doors.
