Bamonte's

Bamonte's has served red-sauce Italian food from the same Williamsburg storefront since 1900, when Pasquale Bamonte, an immigrant from Salerno, opened it among the neighborhood's Italian rowhouses. Now run by a fourth generation of the family, it's kept its menu, its prices, and its cash-only policy largely unchanged for more than a century. Its history runs deeper than the food: it was a well-known hangout for the Five Families, especially after Carmine Galante's 1979 murder, and its private phone booths and glass-fronted kitchen, installed so diners could watch their food being made, are original. It's been a filming location for The Sopranos and a regular stop for the likes of Sinatra and DiMaggio over the decades.
